The South Fork of the Palouse River through downtown Pullman crested at 7.02 feet, just above flood stage and the highest mark since the devastating 1996 and 1997 floods. Only seven dates had higher crests.

State auditors single out Whitman County credit card, fuel card records in 2017 audit

Auditors did not uncover any significant “findings,” but encouraged county officials to strengthen some controls on purchasing card security, petty cash receipts and asset inventory. In a sample test of 132 credit card transactions, auditors found 40 percent of purchases lacked sufficient documentation such as itemized receipts.

Third-party report, Civil Service appeal letter detail Colfax police chief termination dispute

Emails show the mayor tried to remove Police Chief Rick McNannay last May. Attorneys for McNannay released a 12-page Feb. 6 appeal letter challenging the city’s investigation and alleging the mayor ultimately terminated the chief for political reasons. City officials also released a nine-page Dec. 19 investigation report.

Records show hand washing, food temp controls top restaurant inspection failures

Colfax officials set to rezone downtown Tuesday night to expand ‘business’ areas

“This is largely a clean-up measure,” Councilman Jim Kackman said, adding, “There were businesses operating in zones that were non-conforming and it just didn’t make sense.” The proposed changes would convert about two dozen parcels from commercial zones to business zones, plus at least one parcel from manufacturing to a business zone.

Two middle school boys reportedly collided face to face in the dark during a game of glow-stick tag. One 14-year-old boy had a tooth broken off with additional mouth injuries. The other student suffered a “nasty” cut on the forehead.
